Apple Music Home Session: Jax Jones

Apple Music Home Session: Jax Jones

For Jax Jones, recording an Apple Music Home Session was a chance to return to his roots. “I grew up producing music in my bedroom,” the DJ/producer tells Apple Music. “Obviously, I don’t do that anymore—despite having a better bedroom—so to go back to producing in your home, your most comfortable space, was really refreshing. I think the comfort certainly facilitates inspiration as the pressure sometimes found in studios vanishes, allowing you to get lost in what you’re making. Hours literally fly by.” The results of that inspiration include a bold reworking of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” featuring London singer-songwriter ABEL. The original is a track that Jax treasures as one of his favorite pieces of songwriting. “Carly Simon’s wordplay is genius, and the melodies are so catchy,” he says. “The original has got such a good groove to it, thanks to its distinct bassline, that I thought it’s just waiting to be reimagined into a house record.” Jones has also brought new shades to his own “Lonely Heart,” the 2022 single he recorded with Martin Solveig as part of the duo’s Europa project. As with “You’re So Vain,” this version draws on uplifting house—a genre he describes as his favorite kind of music. “I think a lot of people have an affinity towards it and we all have memories soundtracked by it.” he says. “‘Lonely Heart’ has the brilliant GRACEY vocals, and the original is quite a melancholic, tech-house-influenced track. I wanted to see if a new production could change the tone of the record and, thus, the delivery of the message. I’m looking forward to sharing the new music I’ve been cooking up for you all, as well as sharing the new heat from my fellow DJs on House Work Radio.”
